How is Kilnwizz used ??Submitted by wizz on Mon, 06/28/2010 - 19:36 |
To use this kiln, paint a test piece of glass. Place in the center of the kiln. Replace the roof, and position a blow torch at the front opening. Gently warm the kiln up for a few minutes, then turn the gas flame up, so that is reaches the back and sides of the kiln. When the flame turns a yellow color, move the roof forward to spread the flame.
Wait for around 9 minutes, and then turn the flame down. Inspect the glass, if it is glowing then it is fired. The color of the glass should be the same as a poker withdrawn from a fire.
When the glass is fired, using oven gloves, slide the roof back, and move each piece a little, to prevent the glass sticking. Replace the roof, and let the kiln cool for 20 minutes. The glass is now ready. Using larger pieces, or thicker pieces of glass will require longer cooling times.
